Dr Giles Thorpe has been appointed as the new Executive Chief Nurse for the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board.
Giles who lives locally in Essex, trained as a nurse 20 years ago after working in the City of London and previously worked as Deputy Director of Clinical Governance at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals.
Since 2020, Giles has been working at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust as Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control. Prior to this role, he was Director of Clinical Quality and Deputy Chief Nurse at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s).
Giles has also held national roles at NHS Blood and Transplant and is a graduate of the Nye Bevan programme run by the NHS Leadership Academy.
As Executive Chief Nurse for the ICB, Giles will be responsible for continuous quality improvement and providing senior clinical leadership to colleagues across the health and care system.

Giles completed his professional doctorate in health services management at the University of Essex in 2022 and was also awarded and an Honorary Professorship in the School of Health and Social Care at the University.
